The Changing Scope of Meditation for Employees and Corporations
Digitization, societal transformation, and globalization have changed the workplace dramatically in the last few decades. Work processes are now much more intense and complex and require a lot more mobility and flexibility from the employees. Prolonged workplace-related stress, burnout, health impairments, and exhaustion are the adverse effects of increased psychosocial pressures. Before the coronavirus pandemic swept the business world off its feet, companies across the globe had started to realize the potential benefits of meditation for employees within the corporate environment.
With more convincing research being published every day regarding the beneficial effects of mindfulness and meditation in corporate settings, there is a palpable need for mindfulness programs focusing on the mental well-being of employees. This article looks at how mindfulness meditation can help employees increase productivity and efficiency, while positively impacting their mental wellness and helping resolve personal and work-related stress and anxiety
What Is Mindfulness And Why Is It Necessary?
Mindfulness is not just a concept; it is a state, which can be achieved through mindful practice. It is an awareness that molds our perception of the world and reality. Mindfulness is the act of being ever-present mentally, with complete focus, attention, non-judgmental impartiality, and reflection. It represents the act of actively taking part in our life instead of only running on autopilot and experiencing our world as a passerby.
The concept of mindfulness is not an innovation. People in the East have been practicing mindfulness for ell over two thousand years. With the advent of Buddhism, it spread across the world as more and more people realized the beneficial effects of this way of thinking in their lives.
Mindfulness and meditation teach us how to bring about the changes we wish to see in life and how to handle and remain unphased by the stresses and anxieties of our personal and work lives that pester the mind continually throughout the day.
How Can You Be Mindful?
Meditation House helps employees from various organizations bring about positive changes in their lives and achieve more significant success. This is partially accomplished by visualizing their goals, removing negative thoughts and removing the obstacles and actions that are holding them back. Through our Zoom meditation classes, we teach employees how to become more productive and happier in their jobs.
By utilizing Mindfulness and traditional Meditation techniques, we help employees to work with their thoughts to bring about positive changes. We teach them how to bring their minds to the present, to be more aware of their actions, and let go of negative and hyperstimulated thoughts.
But you may be asking yourself how a seemingly simple and straightforward practice, such as meditation, can help people completely change their lives? Read on to learn the answer!
Is Meditation Successful?
According to research from Harvard, meditation not only allows your brain to relax, it has the same effect on depression and anxiety as some of the most effective medical treatments. It is also quite helpful as an alternate approach to antidepressant medications in the form of cognitive behavioral therapy. It directly leads to the reduction of stress and anxiety and its harmful effects on the mind and body.
Based on recent publications by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, it has been noted that mediation allows us to increase focus, memory retention and change our perception for better management of anger and stress!
The American Psychological Association promotes an eight-week mindfulness-based cognitive therapy program through its official channels that seek to promote mental wellbeing and wellness through scientifically proven meditation techniques.
There is no shortage of verifiable and scientifically proven benefits of meditation and mindfulness on the mind and the body. That is why Meditation House has created a comprehensive ten-class program exclusively for companies that combines the benefits of modern scientific practices and the age-old and time-tested techniques of traditional meditation.
Our Journey
Meditation House began operating in New York in 1995 and received much support from the corporate community at the center of the world’s largest economy. We have enjoyed partnerships with numerous leading corporate entities that wished to promote mental well-being and mindfulness among their employees to equip them with the right tools they needed to adequately handle and manage the stress and anxiety of their busy lives.
Before the coronavirus pandemic, Meditation House conducted courses and classes within the clients’ offices. As the global scenario has shifted to virtual means of communication following the coronavirus pandemic, we have also shifted our focus and now deliver our classes and programs via Zoom and Teams..
Our Programs
Our programs focuses on a segmented course that first teaches employees the mindfulness meditation techniques that are most effective and move forward towards addressing the causes and effects of various kinds of stress and anxiety in their lives.
Our programs support a positive meditation technique that helps employees bring their minds to the present and explore their inner emotions and thoughts to address the underlying causes of their negative emotions and the factors contributing to their stress.
We focus on a single point of focus or “a motivation,” as we like to call it through our program. This motivation serves as the anchoring point and represents the things we wish to achieve in our life.
Using positive affirmation techniques that focus around phrases such as “I wish to be…” or “I wish to remove…” we help employees visualize and achieve calm, focus, confidence, and happiness or remove anger, fears, or other negative emotions from their minds.
Over a few days, our students note that a natural change in perspective occurs, which helps them correctly point out the causes and reasons behind the factors causing them distress and holding them back.
We then switch our focus and meditation to addressing these points up until the goal has been achieved.
The Benefits of Conducting Zoom Meditation Classes for Companies
Although we have seen increasingly positive participation during the time we conducted in-person classes, many employers initially failed to recognize the potentially beneficial effects of virtually conducting meditation classes via Zoom. In the view of employers and management, the work from home scenario seemed to result in a more relaxed atmosphere where their employees are shielded from many of the stress factors that they might have been experiencing in the office setting.
The reality is quite the opposite, as the work from home scenario has resulted in a whole new paradigm that brings new sources of anxiety and stress that were not experienced before. Many employees have to look after their families. They tend to their chores during office hours due to being locked up at home, resulting in a decrease in focus and concentration and increased anxiety and stress.
With the compartmentalization out of the way, which most people were comfortable with during the traditional workday, new methods of stress relief and anxiety reduction must be employed to benefit those working remotely.
We have witnessed great success in this light when conducting meditation classes with our clients over Zoom, with an average class size ranging from between 25 to 50 and extending to around a hundred participants!
In addition, most of the shortcomings of in-person classes can now be addressed, such as the low attendance noted by some clients. Low employee attendance has been an ongoing challenge and is primarily due to employees not being able to disengage from the tasks that they are involved in at any given time and the need to complete them.
It is challenging to bring people together on a common platform and to get them to free their minds and clear their thoughts when they are primed through years of experience to do exactly the opposite while inside the office.
With Zoom meditation classes, this setback can be successfully circumvented, as people are more comfortable while attending the classes and can become involved with complete concentration and focus!
The Goal of Mindfulness Meditation for Employees
The ultimate goal of mindfulness meditation is to equip employees with the tools they need to bring about positive change in their lives and achieve their desired goals by removing the adverse effects of stress, anxiety, and other behaviors that are holding them back.
At the end of a successful program, employees note a profound change in their way of thinking, perception, and behavior. We invite corporations to see for themselves how meditation benefits their employees and their work culture with highly positive and long-ranging results.
It will not only promote well-being at the individual scale, but also allow companies to build a more relaxed, focused, and mentally competent workforce that is free from the stresses and anxieties that come with the modern corporate environment.
